Humans have a short life expectancy that causes a problem for them to live a happy life. Today's life expectancy is about 70 years, which many people feel is not long enough to live a happy life. They search for solutions and answers to extend their lives and prolong their living condition. One answer they found was using spirituality as something that saves their lives from the natural course of death and leaves them having more time on Earth. In this paper, we will explore how religion has been used by humans over the years as an answer to what they perceive as the problem of having too few years on Earth before passing away from old age or from other forms of death such as war and crime. Human beings developed religion in order for them to survive in the long term. After they were able to create art, they developed the concept of Heaven, Hell, and The Divine Presence. The main function of religion is not only to provide answers to life's questions but also to relate rules that can be followed that will lead them to becoming happy in this world. Religious rules are divided into religious obligations and religious duties. Obligations are things that have to be done because it is divinely ordered or because it is so important for them psychologically or spiritually for others. Religious duties are things that have to be done because of the importance of being a member of the community. Most religions have three parts, the Doctrine, Rituals, and Ethics. The Doctrine consists of theology or beliefs that all members of the religion must follow. The Rituals are actions that give them a sense of belonging to something holy and sacred. Finally, Ethics are rules that members must follow if they want to be on good terms with their household gods. Religions also provide answers to why evil is present in this world and what people should do about it. Religion can help its followers by offering them motivations for living (Becker, 1975). In the past, people were more religious. Today, they are less religious compared to people in the past. The reasons for this are many; however, the most important reason is because religion does not provide solutions to what they perceive as problems in their lives (Roy, 1993). The major problem that humans face today is the fact that they live few years on Earth before they pass away from old age or die from other forms of death such as war and crime. Religion does not provide them with answers for how to extend their life expectancy. There are some religions that allow their followers to extend their lives to 100 years (Siddhartha Gautama founded Buddhism), but there is no religion that offers immortality. The concept of spirituality developed its abstract form since the beginning of human existence. It is a concept that was created in order for humans to live a happy life. Spirituality can be viewed as a religion or belief that has a very strong connection to the possibility of living forever in this world. Spirituality can be represented by many things such as dreams, visions, and memories. This fact implies that there is no mistake about its existence because humans have been trying to live forever since mankind began to exist.
